Landscape restoration of the foreground of this historic original factory building for Levi Strauss Company was designed to integrate a neighborhood park within the corporate entry.
When we first became involved in the project the site was run down and in derelict condition. We approached Levi with the idea of improving the area and the company funded the project.
We improved recreational facilities while creating a better sense of entry to the building. An area was created that serves as an overflow for tour groups waiting to tour the historic factory facility as well as a lunch area for company employees. New raised planters and site furniture reinforced the entrance sequence and the separation of the new active play area. An existing parking lot was maintained and improved with perimeter plantings that shielded cars from the adjacent street.
Recently the relationship between the City and Levi has changed bringing to an end all public recreational use resulting in a redesign of the site. The sitting circle designed around a serpentine boulder built by the Miller Company has remained.
