Mayfair Market Rate Housing El Cerrito, CA

The 6-story 153 unit Mayfair Market Rate Housing is a part of a larger project that includes an Affordable Residential Building.  Both buildings are sited on a lot previously used for surface parking adjacent to the El Cerrito Del Norte Bart Station.

Our team provided the landscape design for both Market Rate and Affordable projects working with two separate developers.  Landscape design components of the Market Rate project includes three streetscapes, a large 2nd floor podium garden, and a public pedestrian mews that bisects the two developments and connects the busy commercial San Pablo Avenue to Kearney Street and the adjacent neighborhood.  Our planting design features an array of native and drought tolerant species throughout.  The U-shaped podium landscape provides for communal gatherings in the new outdoor kitchen and open paved courtyard tied together by a central open lawn area designed to accommodate informal use.  Privacy afforded to the residential patios adjacent to podium level units are shielded by the design of sloping raised planters. Permeable pavement, communal seating, and storm water planters are featured in the pedestrian mews. The building is constructed using modular units and its composition shields the open space from prevalent winds.
