 Established in 1979, Miller Company offers creative and functional design solutions for every major type of open space development. We create outdoor environments that engage the community and support the ecological health of the natural surroundings. We address the constraints of climate and environmental conditions as opportunities for innovative landscape design. Based in San Francisco, our projects have been recognized internationally for LEED certified sustainable design solutions.

Sustainable Design

At the forefront of our work is the thoughtful and creative approach to sustainable design. Our goal is to not only reduce the harmful impacts of a built environment, but to find opportunities to elevate a space that will foster the natural world. We integrate green roofs and walls, raised vegetable beds and learning gardens, drought tolerant and native plants, rainwater catchment systems, permeable pavers, LED and low light designs, natural play elements, and tree canopies. We have been transforming schoolyards throughout the Bay Area since 2003 to improve health and learning as well as addressing concerns of climate change. Many of our projects are LEED and/or Bay Friendly rated and we are certified as a California Green Business.

 

Building Community

Of particular merit has been our involvement with the sensitive resolution of community needs. Miller Company has worked extensively with public agencies, non-profit organizations, and community groups to design intimate spaces that honor the history of the site. We host workshops and presentations to foster a dialogue with the neighborhood’s residents, young and old, and brainstorm ideals and solutions. We often collaborate with artists and arts organizations to bring unique elements to public spaces.
