Iron Horse Lofts / Coggins Square

Iron Horse Lofts - Coggins Square      Walnut Creek, California

This mixed-income development came about through a partnership between Bridge Housing, a non-profit housing development corporation, and Holliday Development, a private housing developer. The four-acre site includes both an 87-unit affordable housing community named Coggins Square and a 54-unit market-rate housing community named Iron Horse Lofts.

Located adjacent to the Walnut Creek BART station, this transit-oriented, high-density development is the first of its type within Contra Costa County. Landscape elements include a swimming pool, a children's play area, and courtyards. The project preserves existing heritage oaks on the site.

Funding from a public transit grant supported the design of transit seating stations, with ceramic tiles made by children at a nearby elementary school, and transit medallions embedded in the sidewalk. Both Iron Horse Lofts and Coggins Square have received numerous individual design awards that recognize the quality and unique nature of the development.
