Stern Grove Playground

Stern Grove Park Playground
630 Sloat Blvd, San Francisco, CA

The Stern Grove Playground Renovation, a project under the Let’s Play SF! initiative, proposes an imaginative nature-based play destination that amplifies the park's existing woodland character. Conceived as a small village of primitive tree houses, park users will be transported out of the immediate urban context into a forested wonderland. The custom play equipment is inspired by the natural density, scale and random patterns of the park's renowned tree canopy, synthesizing the playground and its site into a cohesive place. The sitework and play equipment highlight the use of natural materials and forms. Born out of a thorough community engagement process, the playground design seeks to respect the historic and natural aesthetic of Stern Grove while creating an exciting and contemporary neighborhood resource.
