Sunnydale Parcel Q

Sunnydale Parcel Q (Casala Apartments) – San Francisco, CA

Miller Company is providing landscape architecture design services for the redevelopment of Sunnydale Public Housing in San Francisco. Originally developed as blocks of barracks-style housing in the 1960’s, Hope SF’s program is gradually transforming the neighborhood into a high-density mixed-income community that preserves the existing housing, while creating a safer and more effective urban infrastructure. The Master Plan calls for 775 units of replacement housing plus an additional 995 units of tax-credit affordable and market rate apartments located on the 50-acre site of San Francisco's largest public housing project, currently home to more than 1,700 ethnically diverse residents.

The Parcel Q site (the Casala Apartments) is 88,550 sf and offers 55 units (studios, one, two and three bedrooms) for low income residents. Our work includes design of ground floor landscape improvements as well as a second-floor podium level courtyard featuring an outdoor kitchen, community room, social gathering areas, and a children’s play area. A pallete of xeriscape planting species requiring little water has been applied throughout the development. Compliant with Bay Friendly Landscaping standards.
